Madrid, capital of the study of the cosmos

Madrid has become the capital of astronomy and astrophysics this week. More than 600 scientists meet up until Friday at the European Planetary Science Congress (EPSC) which, for the first time, is celebrated in our country.

In total there will be almost a thousand presentations, during which Scientists from all over the world will show their latest research on planets, moons, comets and asteroids of the Solar System, as well as novelties in exoplanets, astrobiology and astrochemistry.

The conference is organized by Europlanet, a research platform funded by the EU to encourage cooperation among scientists. Felipe Gómez Gómez, researcher of the Center for Astrobiology (CAB INTA-CSIC) and organizer of this congress, explains that the fundamental objective of this forum is to integrate European planetary sciences in order to compete with the US. However, it is not restricted to research carried out in Europe: "There are presentations by NASA, by American, Japanese, Chinese researchers ... It is a world congress," says Gómez.
